What exactly are you buying?
Google sells three different things with “Gemini” in the name, and quotes go wrong when buyers compare across them:

- Gemini Enterprise — this page. A separate platform for permission-aware search across your systems (Microsoft 365, ServiceNow, SAP, Asana), a no-code Agent Designer, and prebuilt agents such as Deep Research and NotebookLM Enterprise.
Buying Workspace does not give you Gemini Enterprise, and buying Gemini Enterprise does not replace Workspace. Organizations that want both pay for both.

Prices are the widely reported list figures, not an official published rate card — Google does not publish complete public pricing for Gemini Enterprise, so treat these as a planning range and get your number from a quote. The cost nobody budgets for: consumption overage
Each seat includes a quota of agent and search usage. Consumption beyond that quota bills separately, which means Gemini Enterprise behaves like a subscription with a metered tail rather than a flat per-seat licence. Partner estimates commonly put the additional spend at $15 to $40 USD per active power user per month once agents are genuinely in daily use.
The practical consequence: a 50-seat Standard deployment looks like roughly $2,100 CAD/month on seats alone, but if fifteen of those users run research agents daily, the real run rate can land closer to $3,000 CAD. Model the two numbers separately, and ask Google to state the included quota in the contract rather than in a slide.
Why Gemini Enterprise is easier to clear through a Canadian privacy review
This is the strongest argument for Gemini Enterprise over its rivals, and it is a Canadian-specific one. Google Cloud operates regions in Montreal and Toronto. Canadian data residency is therefore achievable, which changes the shape of a PIPEDA assessment: you are no longer documenting a cross-border transfer and arguing comparable protection, you are keeping the data in Canada.
Compare that with the alternatives. ChatGPT Enterprise and Claude Enterprise both process data in the United States with no Canadian residency option, so PIPEDA-covered organizations must disclose the transfer, assess the vendor, and confirm contractual safeguards. PIPEDA permits this — it does not require Canadian storage — but it is extra work, and in Quebec it is more than paperwork: Law 25 requires a privacy impact assessment before communicating personal information outside the province.
Two cautions. Residency is not automatic: confirm in writing which region processes and stores your data, and whether it covers every component you are buying rather than storage alone. And residency is not the same as compliance — your consent, retention, and access-control practices still decide whether the deployment passes review.
When does Gemini Enterprise beat ChatGPT or Copilot?
Integration and compliance separate these products far more than raw model capability does. The frontier models are close enough that most buyers will not notice the difference; where your data already lives is decisive.
